The limited energy density of supercapacitors poses a problem for some applications with high energy storage requirements. The combination of battery and supercapacitor represents a forward-looking solution. The strengths of both components can be optimally combined: The high energy storage density of batteries with the extremely fast charge and discharge times of supercaps.
Our partners VITZROCELL and CAP-XX have developed similar variants for this battery-supercap combination
VITRZOCELL as a large manufacturer of lithium primary batteries combines batteries with ULTRACAP small modules, which are specifically adapted to each customer's requirements. This significantly increases the lifetime of the batteries while meeting the peak power requirement for the customer application - despite the relatively high internal resistance of the battery. This hybrid solution is marketed under the product label "TEKCELL".

Li/SOCl2 Bobbin / EDLC hybrid solution
Pulse requirements in long term applications mean that comparatively low energy but very fast high power density is required. The properties of EDLCs (high power density) are the secret of the Vitzrocell hybrid solution. Its electrolyte solution consists of the solvent thionyl chloride (SOCl2) in which the conducting salt lithium tetrachloroaluminate (LiAlCl4) is dissolved.
The bobbin technique is used especially for long-term discharges with small currents. The cell housing is lined with lithium foil and a current collector with a carbon surface is inserted into the liquid thionyl chloride from above.
Hybrid primary batteries are always customised.
