The limited energy density of super­capacitors poses a problem for some appli­cations with high energy storage require­ments. The combi­nation of battery and super­capacitor represents a forward-looking solution. The strengths of both compo­nents can be optimally combined: The high energy storage density of batteries with the extremely fast charge and discharge times of supercaps.

Our partners VITZROCELL and CAP-XX have developed similar variants for this battery-supercap combi­nation

VITRZOCELL as a large manu­facturer of lithium primary batteries combines batteries with ULTRACAP small modules, which are specifically adapted to each customer's require­ments. This signi­ficantly increases the life­time of the batteries while meeting the peak power require­ment for the customer appli­cation - despite the relatively high internal resis­tance of the battery. This hybrid solu­tion is marketed under the product label "TEKCELL".

The customer application determines the specifi­cation - we support you in finding the right solution.

VITZROCELL scheme: Pulse requirements of hybrid cells

Li/SOCl2 Bobbin / EDLC hybrid solution

Pulse requirements in long term applications mean that compa­ratively low energy but very fast high power density is required. The properties of EDLCs (high power density) are the secret of the Vitzrocell hybrid solution. Its electro­lyte solution consists of the solvent thionyl chloride (SOCl2) in which the con­ducting salt lithium tetra­chloro­aluminate (LiAlCl4) is dissolved.

The bobbin technique is used especially for long-term dis­charges with small currents. The cell housing is lined with lithium foil and a current collector with a carbon surface is inserted into the liquid thionyl chloride from above.

Hybrid primary batteries are always customised.

Why are components like ultracaps called different names?

The variety of terms is explained by the English-language terms commonly used in the electronics industry, which are often mixed with German terms or used synonymously. In some cases, manufacturers have also introduced artificial terms to better distinguish themselves from competitors. Here are the most important examples:
