SenTransmitter, energy self-sufficient wireless measuring systems
In this article, Norbert Lipowski, developer and founder of SenConnect, presents an application from the field of environmental technology. One that is already of great importance for civil protection in view of climate change: It is an environmental transmitter that measures and processes environmental data 365 days a year in the most inaccessible places around the clock and sends it to the control center via radio, including as a flood warning system.
Environmental transmitters for flood warning systems
SenConnect has solved the challenge of maximizing the security of the energy supply by developing the transmitter (“SenTransmitter”) using a supercapacitor. This is powered by a solar module. The disadvantages of the higher selfdischarge compared to a lithiumionbattery are compensated for by a very energy saving circuit design in conjunction with intelligent powermanagement software.
This allows the supercapacitor to make the most of its advantages:
- Up to 1 million charge/dischargecycles,
- use in the industrial temperature range of -20°C ... +80°C,
- highest powerdensity for the powerrequirements of a mobileradio modem and
- insensitivity to total discharge.
The technology can bridge the darkest winter days with minimal solar yield and supplies the necessary energy for sensors, data acquisition, data processing and radiotransmission to the cloud 365 days a year.
Energy self-sufficient wireless measuring systems are used wherever physical and chemical environmental data (analog or digital) needs to be recorded, processed and regularly transmitted to a control center. A wide variety of sensors (temperature, pressure, electrical resistance, etc.) can be used. The system is currently used to detect water levels in rivers or cracks in buildings or crevices. Many other applications are possible in industry, municipalities, agriculture, forestry and even in all areas of environmental technology.
